Say hello to the perfect mango – the kidney mango. I came across this variety at my local Asian store – T&T. About the size of a squash ball, these pint sized mangos are the right size for a sweet snack, to add to a salad or to heap into a pile on the dinner table and invite your guests to enjoy them with superbly stinky cheese, good quality bread and wine.
Each mango yields two decent sized spoon-fulls of fruit. There is no real pit to cut around just a fibrous centre you should avoid eating. I like to keep mangos at room temperature and advise to do so with this variety as well.
So, if you see these petite gems – pick some up. You can thank me later.
